Jeannette Kempkes
Founder and internationally recognized breeder of pure German VA bloodlines
The Wüstenberger-Land type is the product of years of selective breeding for correct structure, sound temperament, and genuine working ability. Dogs from these lines have taken first place at the world championships in Germany under more than one kennel name, with consistent top-ten placements internationally.
In 1992, Jeannette imported her first German shepherd, a male, show line, Schutzhund-titled, IPO3, and FH-titled dog. He was a top son of the famous Enzo von der Burg Aliso, out of the great Quantum von Arminius lines. At this time, she was one of only a few people to bring German-bloodline German shepherds into the United States. She was so impressed with his beauty and work ethic that she joined a Schutzhund club to learn more about the formal training, titling, and showing for the German-bloodline German shepherds. She had her first German shepherd litter in 1993.
She became successful after purchasing a female German shepherd named Jenny vom Laacher Haus, Schutzhund 2 kkl1, a top daughter of the famous Eros von der Luisenstraße. Little did she know then, Jenny would become one of the top producing German shepherds ever. She bred Jenny to the German world young dog sieger, Xandro vom Danischen Hof, Schutzhund 3 kkl1. While Jenny was just a couple of weeks pregnant, they competed in the GSDCA-WDA first universal Sieger show, and Jenny made VA1 universal Siegerin. Jenny had a litter of 11 German shepherd puppies. The “A” litter von Bradbury, her first kennel name, produced the U.S. and European champion VA1 Anika von Bradbury, Schutzhund 2 kkl1. Jenny also produced the famous “O” litter vom Laacher Haus. Oliver vom Laacher Haus made young dog German World sieger, VA Himmel vom Wüstenberger-Land. Jenny’s last litter produced the famous multiple VA, and German World Sieger show SG19, Jazmin vom Wüstenberger-Land, Schutzhund 3 kkl1.
In 1998, Jeannette was introduced to Michael Kempkes. In 1999, she moved to Cologne, Germany to train and show her German shepherds; during that time she fell in love with Michael. He moved with her to California in 2001. They started a new German shepherd breeding and training facility in Agua Dulce, California, in Los Angeles County, and named it Wüstenberger-Land German Shepherds (meaning Desert-mountain-Land German shepherds).
Michael Kempkes
World-renowned authority on training and temperament
Michael has worked with working dogs since childhood. His focus is temperament, handling, and the difference between a well-bred dog and a finished one.
Michael was born in the town of Borken, Germany. At the age of nine, he started what would become his life-long passion for training, titling, and showing of the German shepherd dog. The German government has employed him to train their dogs for guard, bomb detection, and search and rescue. He earned his degrees and certifications from a special government K9 training school in Koblenz, Germany. He has titled hundreds of dogs to the hardest Schutzhund 3 level title obtainable, and taken them to VA levels in show internationally.
Michael is recognized as one of the world’s top German shepherd trainers and handlers and was recently honored by the German SV for his training accomplishments. Michael is responsible for many of the Schutzhund titles and VA placings on a large percentage of the German shepherds that are in the U.S.A. today. He has helped many fellow breeders, both in show and work, and assisted in importing some of the finest show/work stock here into the USA and other parts of the world today.
The Rebrand
We rebranded to put training at the center of our work. The website is now Kempkes Executive K9, a division of Wüstenberger-Land German Shepherds.
The name change wasn’t cosmetic. It reflected a shift in how we work, from selling dogs to building dogs. Wüstenberger-Land remains the breeding program, the bloodlines, the type we’ve spent years developing. Kempkes Executive K9 is the training arm: the finished dog, the handler training, the ongoing support. One house, two disciplines.
We are originally from Germany, and are internationally recognized for breeding and training dogs that consistently place among the top at the world championships. Our European network (breeders, trainers, and handlers we’ve worked with for decades) gives us first access to the best stock and the best training before it ever reaches the market.
Personal Life and Kennel Establishment
I met my wife, Jeannette in Dallas, Texas at a German Shepherd Sieger show (where else)! We moved to Southern California from Germany 25 years ago. “Wüstenberger-Land” is our new kennel name for the USA, the German word for “Desert Mountain Land.” As you will see, we live up a mountain in the desert in beautiful Agua Dulce, California. We have a five-acre parcel far away from the busy city. This made the perfect place to train and raise some of the world’s finest German VA bloodline shepherds being breed today.

At Wüstenberger-Land, we breed and train German shepherds, professionally train German shepherds, and offer Schutzhund-titled personal protection dogs for sale. We have been serving California residents for over 30 years. All Wüstenberger-Land German shepherd breeding stock is super healthy, with sound hips and elbows. We breed our German shepherds to the highest standards. We are not a dog/puppy broker. We are voted one of the top breeders in the USA for German bloodline German Shepherds! We also travel to Germany to show and trial our shepherds, and many of our dogs have taken first in show/work in Germany, Europe, Asia, and the United States. This of course is documented for all to view.
