At Kempkes Executive K9, we import and train champion European bloodline German Shepherds. While we strongly prefer a raw diet, we understand some owners are not comfortable feeding raw.
If you want to skip kibble completely, here are the best gently cooked fresh food options currently available. We do not recommend rice or simple carbohydrates — dogs have a hard time digesting them. We look for the highest meat content possible and cleaner carbs like sweet potatoes or berries when needed.
Our Top Recommendations:
- Stella & Chewy’s FreshMade — Gently cooked frozen food with about 60% meats and organs, one of the highest meat percentages available. Most recipes have no rice.

Important: Always read the ingredient list carefully. Put meat first and avoid anything loaded with rice or simple carbs.
For custom raw diets or incredibly high-quality fresh dried dog treats, we highly recommend Lisa at The Raw Concierge. Even if you’re not feeding raw, her handmade treats are some of the best in the United States.
